Product Specification Packaging

In accordance with the environmental legislation of your region, you can calculate and print the packaging declaration for the end products.

You must create the product specification for packaging items before setting up the end product specification or the semi product specification.

The steps to create a product specification for raw materials and packaging items are similar. Refer to the Product Specification Raw Material topic for complete information on creating a packaging product specification.

Set up packaging materials

You must set up packaging materials such as cardboard or plastic to use it later in the product specification packaging.

  1. Select the Search icon , enter Packaging Materials and then choose the related link.
    The Packaging Materials page opens.
  2. Select New.
  3. In the Code field, enter the packaging material code, such as cardboard or plastic used in the packaging of the products.
  4. In the Description field, enter a description for the packaging material.
  5. To set up translations for material code in the customer’s language or another language, select Related > Material > Translations on the action bar and select the language code with appropriate text in the description to print in the product specification.

Create a product specification for packaging

Follow these steps to create the product specification for packaging items before setting up the end product specification or the semi product specification.

  1. Select the Search icon , enter Product Specifications Packaging and then choose the related link.
    The Product Specifications Packaging list page opens.
  2. Select New.
    The Product Specification Packaging card page opens.
  3. In the Item No. field, select the packaging item number for which you want to create the product specification. The item list shows only those items that are linked to the template with specification class Packaging.
  4. On the Classification FastTab, in the Used As field, select the type of usage for the packaging item.
    • Primary: materials that are directly in contact with the product
    • Secondary or Tertiary: packaging meant for holding together or protection during transport of an already packed product

Refer to the Product Specification Raw Material card page to fill the values in the remaining fields.

Assign packaging materials to the product specification

View the materials of which the packaging item is composed.

  1. Select Related > Packaging > Materials in the action bar on the Product Specification Packaging page.
    The Product Specification Materials page opens.
  2. In the Material Code field, select the code of the material used in product packaging.
  3. The Used As field displays the usage type that you select on the Classification FastTab of the Product Specification Packaging card page.
  4. In the Presence field, mention if the material thickness is equal to, greater than, or less than the values specified in the line.
  5. In the Thickness field, enter the thickness of the packaging material. You can decide the unit of measure, like cm or mm, to express the thickness of the material. Ensure to use the same unit for the thickness throughout where applicable.
  6. In the Manual Weight field, enter the weight of the material in grams used in the packaging of one product.
  7. The Calculated Weight field shows the computed weight (the manual weight times the single quantity of the end product) of the packaging material. The value in this field displays in the end product specification.
  8. The Used Weight field shows the manual weight entered. In the end product specification, the automatically calculated weight is shown in this field.
  9. In the Recycled % field, enter the percentage of the packaging material that is recycled.

The recycled % entered on the raw material product specifications are copied to the end product specification when calculating the product specification for the semi-product or end product.
