Excise Assembly Items
The assembly functionality is used to support the use of gift boxes. In the gift boxes, it is possible to include one or multiple Excise Items. These kind of assembly items are called Excise Assembly Items in the next topics.
When you use an Excise Assembly Item in transactions within Business Central, the Excise Data (unposted and posted) is registered on the Excise Items out of the Assembly BOM.
When you want to setup a gift box with 5 bottles of wine (2 red and 3 white) you need to setup the following data:

When you sell the Excise Assembly Item the following is registered:
- Inventory is registered on the Excise Assembly Item.
- Excise registrations are registered on the Excise Items out of the assembly BOM

To support the functionality of Excise Assembly Items as gift boxes, the following actions are blocked:
- You cannot assign the Excise Data when the item has an assembly BOM.
- You cannot assign a Tariff Group to an item with an assembly BOM.
- You cannot assign an assembly BOM to an item with a tariff group assignment.
- You cannot assign an assembly BOM to an item with an excise data assignment.
- You can only change the assembly BOM of an excise assembly item when the inventory is equal to zero.
- You can only change an assembly BOM of an excise assembly item when the excise assembly item is not used in any unposted assembly documents.
- You cannot add an excise assembly item to an assembly BOM.
- You are not allowed to delete the Item Excise Data or the active Tariff Group from an Excise item when the excise item is a BOM component for an Excise Assembly Item and this Excise Assembly Item has inventory.
Subject to Excise
When you use an Excise Assembly Item in an Assembly Document, the subject to excise has the following values:
