Setting up warehouse put-away templates
The warehouse put-away template is a predefined setup in the warehouse management system that helps to streamline the process of organizing and storing goods in a warehouse after receipt. It ensures that items are placed in optimal locations, improving efficiency, reducing errors, and maximizing storage utilization.
Prerequisites and assumptions
- The put-away template applies only to warehouse put-away documents.
- The put-away template is applicable only for LPN (License Plate Number)-tracked items.
- The put-away template works exclusively for locations that use bins.
- Bin replenishment functionality remains unchanged and continues to use the picking bin group.
- License plate types are required for the put-away template, and at least one license plate type must be defined.
- A bin can hold only one item on one license plate type at a time.
- The system cannot guide put-away to bins containing multiple items or multiple license plate types.
- Once a bin is emptied, it can store a different item or license plate type.
- When using size constraints, all sizes must be in the same unit of measurement (For example: meters, centimetres, or inches).
- When using weight constraints, all weights must be in the same unit of measurement (For example: grams, kilograms, or pounds).
Configuration on the advanced warehouse setup
To setup the warehouse put-away template, you must complete the required configuration on the Advanced Warehouse Setup page.
- Select the Search icon
, enter Advanced Warehouse Setup, and then choose the related link.
The Advanced Warehouse Setup page opens. - On the General FastTab, in the Default Layer UoM field, select a value from the dropdown. This value cannot be left empty, else an error occurs.
Prepare license plates for correct sizes and weights
To use put-away templates with existing license plate records in your company, you must update the license plate contents. This ensures data accuracy and requires all items to have correct values for their units of measure. Additionally, the Default Pallet UoM and Default Layer UoM fields must be defined.
Follow the below steps to update the license plates with correct size and weight.
- Navigate to the License Plates list or License Plate card page.
- Select the lines.
The best practice is to select all lines or multiple lines, depending on the number of license plates. - On the action bar, select Update Contents.
When you update the content or type of a license plate, its sizes and weights are automatically updated.
Configuration on the bin groups
You can configure the following fields on the Bin Groups page to setup the warehouse put-away template.
- Navigate to the Bin Groups page.
- Select the Calculate Put-Away Template data checkbox for the bin codes for which the put-away template data to be calculated for put-away process.
- Select the Overstore Put-Away Bin Capacity checkbox for the bin codes to which the system would allow to store more license plates than the put-away capacity.
Configuration on the bins
You can configure the following fields on the Bins page to setup the warehouse put-away template.
- Navigate to the Bins page.
- In the Maximum Height and Maximum Weight fields, enter the maximum allowable height and weight values of a bin.
When 0 is entered, it represents the unlimited value. - In the Put-Away Sequence field, specify the sequence for the bin.
As the system does not allow multiple items on a bin in put-away templates, best practice is to set the Exclusivity Type field to Single Item (Dynamic) on the Bins page.
Configuration on the bin contents
You can view the configuration of each bin on the Bin Contents page related to the warehouse put-away template.
Navigate to the Bin Contents page.
The following fields provide the required information:
Field | Description |
---|---|
License Plate Type | Specifies the license plate type dedicated to this bin. |
Put-Away Capacity Calculated | Specifies if the put-away capacity is calculated to this bin. |
Put-Away Available Capacity | Specifies the available put-away capacity of this bin. |
Put-Away Available Weight | Specifies the available put-away weight of this bin. |
Define license plate type floor space
You are allowed to define the license plate type floor space on the Bins and Bin Contents pages through License Plate Type Floor Spaces action.
- Navigate to the desired Bins page.
- On the action bar, select Related > Bin > License Plate Type Floor Spaces.
The License Plate Type Floor Spaces page opens. The Bin and the Location Code fields are automatically populated. - In the License Plate Type field, select a value.
- In the No. of Floor Spaces field, enter a value. This works similarly on the Bin Contents page.
Configuration on the location card
You must configure the location card to use the Warehouse Put-Away templates and follow the below steps:
- Navigate to the desired Location Card page.
- On the action bar, select Configure WMS.
The WMS Configuration page opens. - On the Journal Setup FastTab, in the Put-Away group, turn on the Put-Away Template Guidance toggle to specify that the selected location is using guidance in the warehouse put-away process.
A confirmation message will be displayed when you turn on this toggle.
You cannot turn on this toggle when the Default Layer UoM field is empty on the Adv. Warehouse Setup page.
Prepare put-away capacity on the bins
When the Put-Away Template Guidance toggle on the associated location is turned on, you can update the put-away capacity for the bins on the Bin Contents page.
The following steps explains how put-away capacity is updated for bins.
- Navigate to the Bin Contents page.
- In the Location Filter field, select a location.
- Select the lines.
The best practice is to select all lines or multiple lines, depending on the number of license plates. - On the action bar, select Actions > Update Put-Away Capacity.
The bin contents are updated only when the following conditions are met.
- Bins with same items and license plate type.
If a bin contains multiple license plate type, the capacity for it is not calculated and the Put-Away Available Capacity and Put-Away Available Weight are updated to 0. - The Calculate Put-Away Template data checkbox is selected on the Bin Groups page.
- Items with the Maximum Stackable Qty field value defined.
- The Maximum Weight field should have value on the Bins page.
If the Maximum Weight field value is set to 0 for the associated bin, then the Put-Away Available Weight field is updated as 0 on the associated Bin Contents page. - The Type field on the License Plate card page and the No. of Floor Spaces field on the associated Bins page should have values.
Configure warehouse put-away template on the item card
