You can integrate the Aptean Warehouse Management extension with the Aptean Advanced Attributes extension to configure and manage advanced item attributes directly within the WMS scanner during warehouse receipt and direct put-away processes.

Configure item attributes during warehouse receipt and direct put-away

When receiving items via warehouse receipt, the system triggers a dialog that prompts you to enter the relevant lot attributes, including global attributes and other attributes defined in the item’s lot attribute template. If any attributes are marked as mandatory, the system requires you to enter these values before proceeding.

Similarly, when performing a direct put-away for multiple receipts, the system allows you to enter advanced lot attributes. Once entered, the attributes are linked to the lot, and subsequent pallets of the same lot will not require re-entry of these attributes.

Make sure that the following conditions are met to manage lot attributes and warehouse locations in the scanner.

In Business Central

In Business Central, follow these steps to create and process a purchase order, ensuring the warehouse receipt is set up for scanning.

  1. Select the Search icon , enter Purchase Orders, and then choose the related link.
    The Purchase Orders page opens.
  2. On the action bar, select New.

The Purchase Order Card page opens.
  3. In the Vendor Name field, select or enter the name of the vendor.
  4. In the Location Code field, select or enter the WMS location.
  5. On the Lines FastTab, in the Quantity field, enter the required quantity.
  6. Fill out the required fields and release the purchase order.
  7. On the action bar, select Create Whse. Receipt.

    The Warehouse Receipt page opens.
  8. On the General FastTab, turn on the Release To Scanner toggle.

In the scanner

In the scanner, follow these steps to complete the receiving process and update the warehouse records.

  1. Open the WMS app on the device and log in to your location.
  2. Select the Inbound group.
  3. Select the Receipt module.
On the Receipt screen, you can view the list of documents.
  4. Select the desired line, and it will open the item list.
  5. In the Qty field, enter the preferred quantity to receive.
  6. Fill out the lot number details.
A confirmation message appears to select the global lot attributes.

Based on the specified lot number, the system displays the attribute name alongside its corresponding value. If the attribute values are not fixed, you can also modify them using the provided options.

The attributes are shown based on the defined lot attributes for the item and global lot attributes associated with the lot number.

To set up a fixed attribute value, see Link default lot attribute values to item category codes.

  1. Fill out the necessary SSCC number.
The system then displays the item number, lot number, and quantity details.
  2. Select ADD.

The receive activity is completed.

In Business Central, you can view the lot number and lot attribute details on the Item Tracking Lines page of the warehouse receipt.

You can view the details of the completed receipt document on the Activity List (WMS) page.

You can also update or modify the attribute values when performing the direct put-away activity on the scanner. The take and place lines of the receipt are updated with the lot attribute values which are associated with the automatically defined lot number on the corresponding receipt.

You can also enter a new lot number while performing the direct put-away activity.

Note

When you perform activities on the Direct Put-Away module, ensure the Suggest Bin field is set to Preferred Bin on the Sub Module Templates page. You can navigate to this page by selecting Actions > Sub Module Templates on the action bar of the Module Settings page associated with the desired location. This guarantees that items are transferred to the designated bin.

Set up item attributes during transfer order and sales return order receipt

You can configure and manage advanced item attributes when receiving transfer orders and sales return orders using the WMS scanner.

For transfer orders, when the warehouse employee receives the order, the system triggers the ability to enter the advanced lot attributes.

Note

You must configure the warehouse location to support the receipt of transfer orders. Only direct locations can be utilized for this process.

Once completed, the correct lot attributes are assigned to the lot associated with the received transfer order.

In Business Central

In Business Central, follow these steps to set up and process a transfer order, including configuring lot attributes and posting for shipment.

  1. On the Locations page, create a direct location to receive the transfer order.
  2. Open the Transfer Order page.
  3. In the Transfer-from Code field, select the preferred direct location.
  4. In the Transfer-to Code field, select the required WMS location.
  5. On the Lines FastTab, enter the item number and required quantity.
  6. On the action bar, select Item Tracking Lines > Shipment.
The Item Tracking Lines page opens.
  7. In the Lot No. field, select the lot number from the Lot No. List page using the AssistEdit button.

The associated lot attributes are displayed on the Lot Attributes FactBox of the Lot No. List page. You can also choose to modify the attribute’s name or value.
  8. Select OK.
  9. Release and post the transfer order for shipment.
The transfer order is posted for shipment.

In the Scanner

In the scanner, follow these steps to receive transfer orders and manage lot attributes.

  1. Open the WMS app on the device and log in to your location.
  2. Select the Inbound group.
  3. Select the Transfer Receive module.
  4. Select the desired line, and it will open the item list.
  5. In the Qty field, enter the preferred quantity to receive.
  6. Fill out the lot number details.
A confirmation message shows the attributes assigned to the lot linked with the received transfer order.

You can also modify the attribute values if needed.

Note

When processing a sales order with multiple lines for the same item and location but with different lot attribute values, the scanner will consolidate these lines into a single entry.

Finally, you can complete the transfer receive activity along with the lot attribute values.

When an order contains the same item with multiple lines, only one line will appear on the scanner, accommodating the total quantity from each line.

Note

Similarly, for sales return orders, the system allows you to enter advanced attributes when receiving the order. Upon completing the receive activity, the correct lot attributes are added to the lot associated with the received sales return order.

To enforce attribute filtering during warehouse pick

  1. Open the Warehouse Templates page.

  2. Select the Enforce Lot Attributes checkbox to ensure that specific attributes associated with a lot number are applied and cannot be bypassed or ignored during relevant processes, such as picking, receiving, or shipping.

    Note

This checkbox is editable only when the Sorting Method field is filled with a value.

According to the defined sorting method, this selection directly influences how the scanner filters and displays the available lot numbers during the pick activity.

Filtering and display of lot numbers by sorting methods

  1. FEFO - Exclusivity By Pick Order:

    • The bins within a bin group are initially sorted by the oldest lot number, ensuring that the lot with the earliest expiration date is prioritized.
    • After sorting by lot number, the system further sorts the bins based on exclusivity, with preference given to bins containing a single item (fixed or dynamic) or empty bins.
    • The scanner displays the first bin meeting all these criteria, showing the corresponding lot number for picking.
  2. Exclusivity By Pick Order - FEFO:

    • Initially, the bins are sorted by exclusivity, with a preference for bins containing a single item (fixed or dynamic) or empty bins.
    • Within these bins, the system then sorts by the oldest lot number to ensure that the earliest expiring items are picked first.
    • The first bin that meets these sorting criteria displays the corresponding lot number on the scanner.
  3. License Plate Type By Pick Order - FEFO:

    • The bins are first sorted by license plate type, starting with the type specified in the Default License Plate Type field of the warehouse template.
    • Within these license plate types, the system sorts the bins by the oldest lot number to prioritize items with the earliest expiration date.
    • The scanner displays the relevant lot number for the first bin that matches these criteria.

In each sorting method, the Enforce Lot Attributes checkbox ensures that only those lot numbers meeting the specified attribute criteria are displayed and available for selection during the picking process.

During pick activities, the scanner prevents the entry of duplicate lines for the same item.
