Create an SSCC number from a warehouse shipment

Article • 1/17/2025 • 7 min read

When tracking a unit in transit, the SSCC provides all the information required for accurate identification. The SSCC can be captured when a specific logistic unit is dispatched, for example, when the SSCC is created during packing. The warehouse shipment can be used to register the SSCC number, but only when the source document is a sales order or transfer order.

The following explanation is based on a location that is set up for warehouse shipment processing (with or without using the Warehouse Pick). Therefore, the Warehouse Shipment is used to organize the picking information. By posting the shipping details, the corresponding SSCC lines are subsequently posted.

  1. Select the Search icon , enter Warehouse Shipments and then choose the related link.

The Warehouse Shipments list page opens.

  2. Select the preferred No.

    The Warehouse Shipment page opens.

The Qty. to Ship field on the warehouse shipment line must be filled in before creating an SSCC.

The Qty. to Ship field specifies how many units can be handled when compiling the SSCC number.

Before compiling the SSCC number, the packaging must be registered automatically or manually on the Packaging page. This makes it possible to indicate which packaging each SSCC contains.

  3. On the action bar of the Warehouse Shipment page, select Related > Shipment > Other > Packaging.

    The Packaging page opens.

You can register Order Bound Packaging and Item Bound Packaging on the Packaging page. To know more, see Outbound Warehouse Transactions.

Create SSCC number

On the Warehouse Shipment page, select the Create Single SSCC No. function to create one SSCC number for a mixed or homogeneous pallet by assigning it to one or more lot numbers and/or items.

If multiple source documents are filled in the Warehouse Shipment lines, select the source document for which you want to create an SSCC. The Create Single SSCC No. page only shows the lines of the selected Source Document to ensure that if multiple lines are assigned to the same SSCC number, these lines all originate from the same source number.

  1. On the Lines FastTab, select Manage > Create Single SSCC No.

The Create SSCC No.’s page opens.

  2. Select the AssistEdit button in the Shipping Container field.

    The Packaging Types page opens.

If only one shipping container is available in the packaging transactions, this packaging will be automatically filled in the Shipping Container field when creating an SSCC. If in the Aptean Packaging extension, a mandatory shipping container is set up, this will be the only shipping container in the transaction and hence be suggested by default. Otherwise, you must select the right shipping container for the SSCC. Only the Shipping Containers that are registered as packaging for the Warehouse Shipment are shown.

  3. Select the Code and click OK.

  4. Fill in the following fields:

    FieldDescription
Lot No.Specifies the lot number of the item on the line to which the SSCC will be assigned. The lot number cannot be edited on this line because it is directly related to the Warehouse Shipment Item Tracking line. The lot number can be empty on the SSCC if the customer or transfer route is not set up with ‘Lot No. Required’. The lot number can then be added on the Warehouse Shipment Item Tracking line, but this change will not be processed on the assigned SSCC line.
License Plate No.Specifies the License Plate number of the item on the line to which the SSCC will be assigned.
Qty. AssignableSpecifies the number of units in this warehouse activity that have not yet been assigned an SSCC number. It is equal to the Quantity to Ship minus the Qty. Assigned SSCC on the Warehouse Shipment line.
Unit of Measure CodeSpecifies how each unit of the item is measured.
Qty. per SSCCSpecifies the number of units of the item that will be assigned to the SSCC. After entering a quantity for multiple lines, the system checks whether the setting regarding the composition of the SSCC is met. E.g.: When the SSCC setup only allows for homogeneous logistic units, then an error will be issued when quantities are entered for multiple item numbers.
Weight Quantity (UoM)Specifies the weight of an item associated with the SSCC line. The system automatically calculates this field’s value based on the value entered in the Qty. per SSCC field.
TypeSpecifies whether the packaging is bound to the item or to the order.
Shipping UnitSpecifies the code of the Shipping Unit. The shipping unit is automatically suggested if Default for SSCC is selected for this packaging. To know more, see SSCC Setup. When the packaging type is Item Bound, the Shipping Unit cannot be edited. When the type is blank or Order Bound, the Shipping Unit can be changed to another packaging that was assigned during the packaging registration.
Quantity per Shipping UnitSpecifies the quantity of items per Shipping Unit, expressed in the Unit of Measure.

You can see the number of items to which an SSCC is assigned via the Quantity Assigned SSCC on the Warehouse Shipment line. You can see the detailed information that is assigned to the SSCC number(s) by clicking on the Qty. Assigned SSCC value for required items on the Lines FastTab.

If the item is a non-fixed catch weight item, then the Weight Quantity field can be edited upto the percentage variance of the non-fixed code. You cannot change the Weight Quantity field value for the fixed catch weight items.

When entering a quantity in the Qty. per SSCC field, the system checks whether the following condition for item tracking is met.

    • If the item is lot tracked, the value in the Qty. per SSCC field shall be less than or equal to the value in the Qty. Assignable field.

    • If the item is license plate tracked, the value in the Qty. per SSCC field must be equal to the value in the Qty. Assignable field.

The Weight Quantity (UoM) field gets automatically updated. The system calculates the value of the Weight Quantity (UoM) field by dividing the total weight specified for an item-tracked line, in the Weight Qty. to Handle field, by the total quantity for that line, in the Qty. to Handle field. However we are allowed to manually edit this field value.

If the value in the Weight Quantity field on the Create SSCC No.’s page is greater than the value in the Weight Qty. to Handle field on the Item Tracking Lines page, then the system shows an error.

While posting a warehouse shipment, the system checks if the Weight Quantity to Handle field on the Item Tracking Lines page matches the sum of the Weight Quantity field values on the SSCC Lines page. Otherwise, an error is thrown.

The SSCC Lines page associated with the specific Warehouse Shipment line opens.

The SSCC Lines page shows the detailed information that is assigned to the SSCC number(s).

You can see all the SSCC numbers that were created per source document for the Warehouse Shipment via the Show SSCC lines function. The following procedure describes how to perform this activity.

  5. On the Lines FastTab, select the Source Document for which you want to show the assigned SSCC lines.

  6. On the action bar of Lines FastTab, select Line> Show SSCC Lines.

    The SSCC Lines page opens.

The SSCC Lines page shows the detailed information that is assigned to the SSCC number(s).

After creating the SSCC numbers, it is possible to delete or print the created SSCC(s). SSCC lines that have been created during the Warehouse Shipping process are archived for traceability purposes into posted SSCC lines when posting the Warehouse Shipment.

  7. On the action bar of the Warehouse Shipment page, select Home > Post Shipment> Post Shipment.

    The dialog box appears.

  8. Select Ship and click OK.

The Warehouse Shipment and the SSCC line(s) are now posted.
