Create an SSCC number from an inventory pick

Article • 1/17/2025 • 5 min read

When tracking a unit in transit, the SSCC provides all the information required for accurate identification. The SSCC can be captured when a specific logistic unit is dispatched, for example when the SSCC is created during packing. You can use the inventory pick to register the SSCC number, only when the source document is a sales order or transfer order.

The following explanation is based on a location that is set up to require pick processing without shipment processing. Therefore, the Inventory Pick is used to organize the picking information. By posting the picking information, it in turn posts the shipment of the items and the SSCC lines.

  1. Select the Search icon , enter Inventory Picks, and then choose the related link.
The Inventory Picks list page opens.
  2. Select the required No.
    The Inventory Pick page opens.
  3. Enter the Qty. to Handle on the Inventory Pick line. The Qty. to Handle field on the Inventory Pick line specifies how many units can be handled when compiling the SSCC number. Before compiling the SSCC number, the packaging must be registered automatically or manually on the Packaging page. This makes it possible to indicate which packaging each SSCC contains.
  4. On the action bar of the Inventory Pick page, select Related > Pick > Other > Packaging.
    The Packaging page opens.

You can register Order Bound Packaging and Item Bound Packaging on the Packaging page. It is explained in the Aptean Packaging extension.

Create SSCC number(s)

On the Inventory Pick page, select the Create Single SSCC No. function to create one SSCC number for a mixed or homogeneous pallet by assigning it to one or more lot numbers and/or items. The following procedure describes how to perform this activity.

  1. On the action bar of the Inventory Pick page, select Actions > SSCC > Create Single SSCC No.
The Create SSCC Nos page opens.
  2. On the Create SSCC Nos page, click on the AssistEdit button on the Shipping Container field.
    The Packaging Types page opens.
If only one shipping container is available in the Packaging transactions, this packaging will be automatically filled in the field Shipping Container when creating an SSCC. If a mandatory shipping container is configured in the Packaging extension, it will be the only shipping container in the transaction and will, therefore, be suggested by default. Otherwise, you must select the right shipping container for the SSCC. Only the Shipping Containers that are registered as packaging for the Inventory Pick are shown.
  3. Select the required Code on the Packaging Types page and click OK.
  4. Fill in the following fields on the Create SSCC Nos. page
FieldDescription
Item No.Specifies the number of the item on the line to which the SSCC will be assigned.
DescriptionSpecifies the description of the item on the line to which the SSCC will be assigned.
Variant CodeEnter the variant of the item on the line to which the SSCC will be assigned.
Lot No.Select the lot number of the item on the line to which the SSCC will be assigned. It specifies the lot number of the item on the line to which the SSCC will be assigned. The lot number cannot be edited on this line because it is directly related to the Inventory Pick line. The lot number can be empty on the SSCC if the customer or transfer route is not set up with ‘Lot No. Required’. The lot number can then be added afterwards on the Inventory Pick line, but this change will not be processed on the assigned SSCC line.
License Plate No.Enter the License Plate number of the item on the line to which the SSCC will be assigned.
Qty. AssignableEnter the number of units in this warehouse activity that have not yet been assigned an SSCC number. It is equal to the Quantity to Handle minus the Qty. Assigned SSCC on the Inventory Pick line.
Unit of Measure CodeSelect the unit of measure associated with the defined item(s).
Qty. per SSCCEnter the number of units of the item that will be assigned to the SSCC. It specifies how many units of the item will be assigned to the SSCC. After entering a quantity for multiple lines, the system checks whether the setting regarding the composition of the SSCC is met.
TypeDefine whether the packaging is bound to the item or the order.
Shipping UnitEnter the code of the Shipping Unit. It specifies the code of the Shipping Unit. The shipping unit is automatically suggested if ‘Default for SSCC’ is selected for this packaging (see chapter ‘SSCC Setup’). When the packaging type is Item Bound, the Shipping Unit cannot be edited. When the type is blank or Order Bound, the Shipping Unit can be changed to another packaging that was assigned during the packaging registration.
Quantity per Shipping UnitEnter the quantity of items per Shipping Unit, expressed in the Unit of Measure.
  1. After filling the above mentioned fields, click OK. The created SSCC number is assigned to the Inventory Pick line(s).

You can see the number of items to which an SSCC is assigned via the Show SSCC Lines function on the action bar of the Inventory Pick page.

The SSCC Lines page associated with the defined Inventory Pick page opens. The SSCC Lines page shows the detailed information that is assigned to the SSCC number(s).

When managing the Catch Weight items, the Weight Quantity (KG) field in the SSCC Lines is updated specifically when you perform Box Scanning during the pick registration.

You can see all the SSCC numbers that were created per source document for the Warehouse Shipment via the Show SSCC lines function. The following procedure describes how to perform this activity.

  1. On the action bar, select the Related > Show SSCC Lines.
The SSCC Lines page opens. The SSCC Lines page shows the detailed information that is assigned to the SSCC number(s).

After creating the SSCC numbers, it is possible to delete or print the created SSCC(s).

  1. On the action bar of the Inventory Pick page, select Post > Post.
    A dialog box appears.
  2. Select Ship and click OK.

The Inventory Pick and the SSCC line(s) are now posted.
