Units of measure
You can set up and manage permanent conversion ratios among similar units of measure by linking them to the unit of measure groups on the Unit of Measure Groups page. This setup allows you to define a baseline unit of measure for each group and configure conversion ratios for other units of measure within the same group.
For example, you can create a group for weight and designate kilogram (KG) as the baseline unit of measure. Then, you can define conversion ratios for related units, such as grams (1000 grams = 1 kilogram) or pounds (1 kilogram = 2.20462 pounds). This configuration ensures that conversions are consistent and efficient, reducing manual effort and errors when managing quantities across different units of measure.
To set up or modify a unit of measure, follow these steps:
-
Select the Search icon
, enter Units of Measure, and then choose the related link.
The Units of Measure page opens. -
On the action bar, select New to create a new unit of measure or select an existing one.
-
Enter the required information in the following fields:
Field Description UOM Group Code Select the required unit of measure group code for the selected unit of measure.
This field value is automatically updated and cannot be changed for the baseline unit of measure configured on the Unit of Measure Groups page and for the unit of measure selected in the Standard Weight Unit of Measure field on the Standard Measurements Setup page.Qty. per Baseline UOM Enter the number of units of the selected unit of measure that are equivalent to one unit of the baseline unit of measure. For example, if the baseline unit of measure is kilogram and the current unit of measure is gram, enter 1000 in this field (since 1 kilogram equals 1000 grams).
This value is used to represent conversions within a unit of measure group in a standard way.Baseline UOM Quantity Enter the number of units of the baseline unit of measure equivalent to one unit of the selected unit of measure. For example, for gram, enter 0.001 (since 1 gram equals 0.001 kilograms).
The Qty. per Baseline UOM and Baseline UOM Quantity fields are interconnected, with their values being reciprocal, as shown below:
- Qty. per Baseline UOM = 1/Baseline UOM Quantity
- Baseline UOM Quantity = 1/Qty. per Baseline UOM
If the selected unit of measure is the baseline unit of measure, both fields become non-editable and their values are automatically set to 1.
