Item units of measure

You can manage and update unit of measure details for items, focusing on maintaining accurate units on the Item Units of Measure page. This functionality helps you to define and configure the relationship between an item’s base unit of measure and its alternate units.

For example, if an item’s base unit is a Can and an alternate unit is a Box, Crate, or Pallet, the system ensures that conversions between these units are automatically calculated based on predefined ratios.

This configuration automates unit conversion setup, reducing manual data entry, minimizing errors, and enhancing the overall efficiency of managing item units of measure.

Consider an example where the base unit of measure for an item is Can and the following values:

To define alternate units of measure, follow these steps:

  1. Select the Search icon , enter Items, and then choose the related link.
    The Items list page opens.

  2. Select the required No. to open the relevant Item Card page.
    The Item Card page opens.

  3. On the action bar, select Related > Item > Units of Measure.
The Item Units of Measure page opens.

  4. Enter the required information in the following fields:

    FieldDescription
CodeSelect the relevant unit of measure code.
Quantity Expressed in Base UOMSpecifies the number of units in the base unit of measure that correspond to the quantity specified in the Quantity Expressed in the UoM field, based on the selected unit of measure code.
For Box, enter 5 to indicate that 5 Cans (base unit) are equivalent to 1 Box.
The term Base UOM in the field name will dynamically change to display the code of the item’s base unit of measure.
This field value is automatically set to 1 for the item’s base unit of measure.
Quantity Expressed in the UOMSpecifies the number of units in the selected unit of measure that correspond to the quantity specified in the Quantity Expressed in Base UOM field.
For Box, enter 1 to indicate that the alternate unit Box is equivalent to 5 Cans.
This field value is automatically set to 1 for the item’s base unit of measure.
For more information, see Automatic update of item UoM quantities.
Qty. per Unit of MeasureSpecifies how many of the base unit of measure are contained in one unit of the item. This value is calculated by dividing the Quantity Expressed in Base UOM field value by the Quantity Expressed in the UOM field value.

While configuring unit relationships, one of these fields will always be set to 1, ensuring consistency in unit conversions.
