Label printer setup

On the Label Printer Setup page, the user must define which labels should be printed on which printers. When printing, the system will first check which label type corresponds to the table from which the label is printed. The image below show which documents correspond to which label types.

Printed From
  • Sales Return Order

  • Sales Order
  • Purchase Return Order
  • Production Order
  • Assembly
  • Item Journal (Entry: Output)
  • Lot No. Information Card
  • Item Journal
  • Transfer Order
  • API (External System)

The label printer selection follows two levels of hierarchy:

    First level:

    • Both warehouse employee and label code matches
    • Only label code matches (the warehouse employee is left blank in the setup)
    • Only warehouse employee matches (the label code is left blank in the setup)
    • Both warehouse employee and label code are left blank

If any of the above conditions match, it will proceed to the second level of hierarchy.

    Second level:

    • Work center, machine center, location code, and bin code
    • Work center, machine center, and location code
    • Work center and machine center
    • Work center and location code

Label type - receipt, shipment or internal

Depending on the Label type it is possible to select a specific location, bin, warehouse employee or work center. If the label type is “Receipt”, “Shipment”, “Custom”, or “Internal,” it is possible to select the printer based on a specific location, bin or warehouse employee.

    1. Select the Search icon , enter Label Printer Setup and then choose the related link.
The Label Printer Setup page opens.
    2. In the Label Type dropdown list, select the required option.
The options in the list are: Receipt, Shipment, Production Output, Internal, and Custom.
    3. Click the Label Subtype field and enter a subtype number for the label if the Label Type is ”Custom”. The label subtype specifies for which type of custom document the label can be used. The subtype must match the subtype sent from the API or the Interface Management extension
    4. Click the Label Code field.
    5. Select the label that should be printed on a specific printer, e.g., “LOT-SALES-ITEMTR”.
    6. Click the Location Code field.
    7. Select the location used in the source document for which labels should be printed on a specific printer, e.g., “APTEAN P/P”.
    8. Click the Warehouse Employee field and select the user ID, e.g., “ADMIN”, for which labels should be printed on a specific printer.
    9. Click the Bin Code field and select the bin, e.g., “COOL”, used in the source document for which labels should be printed on a specific printer.
    10. Enter the Printer Code on which the labels should be printed, e.g., “Printer 1”.
    11. In the Printer Setup Code field, select the unique identifier for the label printer setup configuration from the dropdown menu. This value is inherited from the Printer Code Setup page. For more information, see Printer Code Setup.

The label printer setup for the selected label code is now set up.

If the specific label “LOT-SALES-ITEMTR” is printed from a sales order or purchase return order (shipment) and the Location Code in the source document is “APTEAN P/P” and the Warehouse Employee who prints is “ADMIN” and the Bin Code in the document is “COOL”, then the label is printed from “Printer 1”.

If the values do not correspond, (and to no other label printer setup line) an error message is shown when trying to print the label.

    Note
    • Ensure that Printer Code Setup is completed before configuring label printers in Label Printer Setup.
    • If the Printer Setup Code is not populated with a value for the Endpoint URL, the system will fall back to the value specified in the EndpointLabelSoftware field within the table.

    Label type - production output

If the label type is production output, it is possible to select the printer based on a work center.

    1. On the Label Printer Setup page, in the Label Type dropdown list, select Production Output.
    2. In the Work Center field, select the required No., e.g., W00001.
    3. In the Machine Center field, select the required No., e.g., M00001.
    4. Enter the Printer Code, e.g., Printer 2.

In this example, if any label is printed from a production order, an assembly or an item journal (production output), and the work center in the source document is W00001 then it is printed on Printer 2. If the values do not correspond (and to no other label printer setup lines), an error message is shown when trying to print the label.

The hierarchy for the production output labels is as follows:

    • Work center, machine center, and label code
    • Work center, machine center
    • Work center and label code
    • Label code
    • Work center

Similarly, it works for machine centers.
