Introduction
Catch Weight is a term that means approximate weight. In Industries, products such as cheese wheels or cuts of meat can naturally vary in weight. Items are typically sold by a unit, such as a wheel or a case but are priced per weight unit of measure, for example, Pounds or Kilogram. This way, ten wheels of cheese could sell for different amounts since each one has a unique weight.
Catch weight items use two units of measure: a base unit of measure and a catch weight unit of measure. As a standard, the base unit of measure can be used when the product is sold, received, transferred, picked, and shipped. The catch weight unit of measure can be used when the item is weighed anywhere in the business process, such as when the item is received, shipped and invoiced. Nominal or standard weight is defined for the base unit, making it easy to determine whether an actual recorded weight is within tolerance.
Aptean Catch Weight extension enables the use of Catch Weight items in the supply chain, meaning that transactions are registered using a dual unit of measure (for example, Pieces and Kilograms or Pounds). This allows you to process these items according to a physical unit but price them according to their weight.
