Walkthrough: Picking orders in Sales Unit of Measures

When items are standardly sold in the base unit of Measure, bottles, but a specific customer only orders, and wants to be delivered, in cases, we only want to deliver this customer in full cases. When creating a pick in Business Central, the function will always try to add the full quantity, in the base unit of measure, in the pick, even if not enough inventory. To avoid incorrect picks for a customer, we can use the Pick Rounding.

Note

Do not use smaller Units of Measure than the Item Base Unit of Measure in any process in Business Central. If used, they can cause unexpected inventory quantities, which can only be solved by manual intervention.

Preparation

1. Select the Search icon , enter Items, and then choose the related link.
2. Select Item 4211. The Item page opens.
3. Select the Units of Measure action. The Item Units of Measure page opens.
4. Select the first line, Code is BOTTLE.
5. Change Qty. per Unit of Measure to 1.
6. Close Item Unit of Measures.
7. In the Item card, Change Base Unit of Measure to BOTTLE.
8. Select the Units of Measure action. The Item Units of Measure page opens.
9. Select the third line, Code is CASE.
10. Change Qty. per Unit of Measure to 6.
11. Close Item Unit of Measures.
12. Close Items.

13.Select the Search icon , enter Item Journal, and then choose the related link.
14. In the Batch Name field, choose the assist button. The Item Journal Batches page opens.
15. Choose the new action.
16. Fill in line:

17. Choose the OK button. The Batch Name changed to YOURNAME.
18. Fill in line:

19. Select the Item Tracking Lines action.
20. Select the Assign Lot No. action.
21. Select the Close button.
22. Select the Post action.
23. Close the Item Journal.

Sales order to pick

24. Select the Search icon , enter Sales Orders, and then choose the related link.
25. On the Sales Orders page, choose the New action.
26. In the Customer Name field, enter the No. 95100 (The Cannon Drinks Group PLC LPN).
27. In the Location Code field, enter SILVER.
28. Fill in line:

29. Select the Release action.
30. Select the Create Warehouse Shipment action. The Warehouse Shipment page opens.
31. Select the Create Pick action.
32. On the Whse.-Shipment - Create Pick page, select the Warehouse Template Group 2_FULLMIX.
33. Select the OK button. A new pick activity is created.
34. Check the Pick Qty in the Warehouse Shipment Line.
35. Select the Pick Qty in the Warehouse Shipment Line. The Warehouse Pick Lines list opens.
36. Select the first line.
37. Select the Card action. The Warehouse Pick opens.
38. Check the Qty. to Handle in the Pick Line.

Already mentioned, we only pick full cases for this customer, but in this pick, we are able to pick 1 case and 5 bottles. To avoid any mistakes, we can add Pick Rounding to the Warehouse Template.

39. Delete Pick.
40. Select the Search icon , enter Warehouse Templates, and then choose the related link.
41. On the Warehouse Templates page, filter the Warehouse Template Group on 2_FULLMIX.
42. Select the Edit List action.
43. In the Line with Warehouse Template Code 21_MIX, change the field Pick Rounding to Unit of Measure from source document.
44. Close the Warehouse Template.

45. Back in the Warehouse Shipment, choose the Create Pick action.
46. On the Whse.-Shipment - Create Pick page, select the Warehouse Template Group 2_FULLMIX.
47. Select the OK button. A new pick activity is created.
48. Check the Pick Qty in the Warehouse Shipment Line.
49. Select the Pick Qty in the Warehouse Shipment Line. The Warehouse Pick Lines list opens.
50. Select the first line.
51. Select the Card action. The Warehouse Pick opens.
52. Check the Qty. to Handle in the Pick Line.

Already mentioned, we only pick full cases for this customer, in this pick, we are only able to pick 1 case.
