Walkthrough: Migrate inventory, including Tracking Enhancements

When starting a new company in Business Central, it is imperative to add all the current inventory, including Lot Nos., Expiration Dates and License Plate Nos..

To add new, not yet tracked, inventory we can add all tracking information using the tracking pages.

1. Select the Search icon , enter Item Journal, and then choose the related link.
2. In the Batch Name field, select DEFAULT.
3. Fill in line:

4. Select the Item Tracking Lines action

You can assign serial or lot numbers in the following ways:

  • Automatically, by selecting Process then choosing Assign Serial No. or Assign Lot No. to assign serial/lot numbers from predefined number series.

  • Automatically, by selecting Process then choosing Create Customized SN to assign serial/lot numbers based on number series you define specifically for the arrived items.

  • Manually, by entering serial or lot numbers directly, for example, the vendor’s numbers.

  • Manually, by assigning a specific number to each item unit.

  • Manually add the Item Tracking Information, Lot No. Expiration Date

5. Select the Assign Lot No. action.
6. Fill in line:

7. Use the Assign Lot No. method to assign another Lot No.

9. Select Close.
10. Select the License Plate Tracking action
11. When having multiple Lot Nos., a selection page is shown.
12. Select the Lot No., choose the Open Plate numbers action. The License Plate Reservations Entries page opens.

You can assign License Plate numbers in the following ways:

  • Automatically, by selecting Assign Plate Numbers to assign license Plate numbers from predefined number series.

  • Manually, by entering Plate Numbers directly, for example, the vendor’s numbers.

  • Always add the correct License Plate Type.

13. Select the Assign Plate Numbers action
14. Select the License Plate Type, the default type is shown
15. Select OK button. The License Plate numbers are added, 1 number per Default Pallet UOM.
16. Select the Close button.
17. Select the second Lot No., repeat the actions to assign License Plate Numbers.
18. Select the Close button.
19. Select the Post Action and confirm.
20. Check Warehouse entries and Detailed Warehouse Entries.

Of course, it is not easy if we want to import Inventory via configuration packages, including the tracking. When importing we will add the tracking information to the fields: Lot No. to Assign, Expiration Date to Assign, License Plate No. to Assign and License Type Plate to Assign and use assignment actions.

21. Select the Search icon , enter Item Journal, and then choose the related link.
22. In the Batch Name field, select DEFAULT.
23. Fill in lines:

24. Select the Apply Lot and Exp. Date Assignment action. Check the Lot No. field to be assigned in the line.
25. Select the Apply License Plate Assignment action.
26. Select the Post action and confirm.
27. Check Warehouse entries and Detailed Warehouse Entries.
