Integration with Aptean Process Manufacturing

Article • 1/7/2025 • 6 min read

You can integrate the Aptean Beverage Advanced Warehouse Management extension, Drink-IT Edition, with the Aptean Process Manufacturing extension to ensure accurate inventory tracking and provide flexibility to handle partial quantities. This allows warehouse employees to efficiently move items between bins while simplifying backflush processes, co-product management, inventory movements, and consumption tracking using advanced warehouse management license plates.

Make sure to configure the required application on the Feature Control page. For more information, see Set up feature control.

Inventory movements using the AWM license plates

Follow these steps to manage inventory movements using advanced warehouse management license plates efficiently.

  1. Open the Create Consolidated Production Movement page.
  2. In the To Bin Code field, select the bin code where items from the internal movement should be placed after picking.
Alternatively, you can turn on the Use Prod. Order Component Bin Code toggle to automatically assign the bin code in the To Bin Code field on the resulting movement lines based on the bin codes specified in the production order component lines. This will consolidate the demand for each bin code.
  3. Fill in the required fields.
  4. Select OK to create the internal movement.
For more information about create consolidated production movement, see Consolidated pick.
  5. Open the desired Internal Movement page.
  6. On the Lines FastTab, fill in the From Bin Code and To Bin Code field values. These values specify the bin from which items will be picked and the bin where they will be placed during the internal movement.
  7. In the Quantity field, enter the quantity of items to be moved.
  8. On the action bar, select Create Inventory Movement.
The system creates an inventory movement to handle items based on the warehouse configuration.
  9. Open the desired Inventory Movement page.
  10. Fill in the required fields.
  11. On the Lines FastTab, in the Qty. to Handle field, enter the preferred quantity for the item number. Ensure the specified quantity does not exceed the available quantity on the selected license plate.
  12. On the action bar, select Functions > Split per Transport UOM.
The system automatically splits the license plate to take and place lines of internal movement.

After completing the movement, the items are correctly moved to the new bin, and inventory records accurately reflect the new quantities and license plates.

Turn on the Allowed Over Pick Consolidated Movement toggle on the Process Manufacturing Setup page to pick and move more than the outstanding quantity in inventory movements with the advanced warehouse management license plates created through the Create Consolidated Production Movement page. This functionality accommodates practical scenarios where full pallets or containers exceeding the requested quantity need to be moved to the production bin. For more information, see Over-pick in an inventory movement.

Consume items from the AWM license plate using the consumption journal

After registering the inventory movement and posting the output in the production journal, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Calculate Consolidated Consumption page.
  2. In the Bin Code field, enter or select the bin code used to filter the production order component lines that need to be consolidated for consumption.
  3. Turn on the Create Consolidated Consumption Journal lines toggle to calculate and generate consolidated consumption items as journal lines in the consumption journal.
  4. Fill in the required fields.
  5. Select OK to create the consumption journal.
  6. Open the Consumption Journals page.
The journal lines are created for the posted released production orders.
  7. On the action bar, select License Plate Tracking.
The License Plate Reservation Entries page opens.
The system automatically updates the license plate numbers in the License Plate No. field to reflect the remaining quantity and the Quantity (Base) and Qty. to Handle (Base) fields based on the quantity to consume.
  8. On the action bar, select Home > Post to post the consumption journal lines.

Manage backflush and co-products with the AWM license plates

The system automatically deducts inventory from the advanced warehouse management license plates during the backflush process in production based on production order requirements, ensuring accurate inventory management.

  • Turn on the Backflush on Lot Number toggle on the Process Manufacturing Setup page.
  • The Flushing Method field must be set to Backward on the Item Card page for the component item.
For more information about the backflush method, see Backflush on lot-tracked items.

Follow these steps to manage components with the backward flushing method in production orders.

  1. Open the Released Production Order page.
  2. Fill in the required details.
  3. On the Lines FastTab, on the action bar, select Components.
The Prod. Order Components page opens.
  4. Fill in the required details for the component item(s) with the Backward flushing method.

You can use the advanced warehouse management license plates on the License Plates Reservation Entries page while posting the output using the Production Journal page.

Based on the production order’s consumption needs, the system deducts the required quantities from the linked advanced warehouse management license plates.

For more information, see Flush components according to operation output.

After finishing the production order, you can view the created output and consumed quantity records on the Warehouse Entries page.

The advanced warehouse management license plate details for the consumed quantity and created output can be viewed on the Detailed Warehouse Entries page.

You can also perform the backflush process similarly by specifying the routing link code on the Routing and Production BOM pages and mapping it to the main item. For more information, see To flush components according to operation output.

This functionality works similarly when handling a released production order with a co-product. It applies when posting the output for both the main and co-product items while using advanced warehouse management license plates, as specified on the License Plate Reservation Entries page associated with the Production Journal page.

After finishing the production order, you can view co-product entries on the Warehouse Entries and Item Ledger Entries pages.

Additionally, you can view the consumption records for co-products on the Detailed Warehouse Entries page with the license plate numbers generated based on the specified value in the Default License Plate No. Reallocation Item field on the Process Manufacturing Setup page.

Follow the steps below to add the unplanned output item with the advanced warehouse management license plates.

  1. Open the Released Production Order page.
  2. On the Lines FastTab, select Line > Add Unplanned Output on the action bar.
The Add Unplanned Output page opens.
  3. Fill in the required fields.
  4. Select OK.
The unplanned output item has been added to the released production order line. For more information, see Unplanned output.
  5. On the action bar, select Line > Production Journal.
    The Production Journal page opens.
  6. Assign the lot numbers and required details on item tracking lines.
  7. Post the production journal.
You can specify the advanced warehouse management license plates on the License Plates Reservation Entries page while posting the output using the Production Journal page.

After finishing the production order, you can view the consumed quantity of the unplanned output item, and its details on the Item Ledger Entries and Detailed Warehouse Entries pages.
