Warehouse Management System  •  Article  •  2/3/2025  •  3 min

When the Aptean Warehouse Management System extension is used in conjunction with the Aptean Process Manufacturing extension, you can consolidate production movement. This ensures that inventory management and production planning are accurate, facilitating streamlined system operations. By automating the synchronization of inventory data, this integration helps reduce errors and improve overall warehouse and production performance.

Set up to release consolidated movement to scanner

To set up to release consolidated movement to the WMS scanner, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Process Manufacturing Setup page.
  2. On the General FastTab, turn on the Release Consolidated Movement to Scanner toggle to automatically create and release the inventory movements to the WMS scanner for items with consolidated picking.
When the toggle is turned on, the system automatically turns on the Create Inventory/Warehouse Movement toggle on the Create Consolidated Production Movement page, as well as the Release to Scanner toggle on the related Inventory Movement page.
This automatic update eliminates the need for manual updates and simplifies the process of creating inventory and internal movements using the Create Consolidated Production Movement page.

Process consolidated consumption in the WMS scanner

To process consolidated consumption in the WMS scanner and ensure inventory updates during production, follow these steps:

In Business Central

  1. Open the Released Production Order page.
  2. Enter the item number, quantity and the related information in the required fields.
  3. On the Lines FastTab, select Line > Components.
The Prod. Order. Components page opens.
  4. Fill in the required fields.
  5. In the Components Pick Method field, select Consolidated.
  6. Select the Consolidated Consumption checkbox.
  7. Open the Create Consolidated Production Movement page.
  8. Fill in the required fields.
  9. On the Filter: Prod. Order Component FastTab, in the Item No. field, select the relevant component item number.
  10. Select OK.
For more information about creating consolidated production movement, see Consolidated production movement.
  11. Open the Inventory Movement page.
You can view that the Release To Scanner toggle is automatically turned on and the updated inventory movement records using the Create Consolidated Production Movement page.

In the scanner

  1. Open the Aptean WMS scanner on the device and log in to your location.
  2. Select the Internal group.
  3. Select the Movement module.
  4. Scan the barcode of the associated license plates.
After scanning, the system automatically handles the quantity in the inventory movement and updates the take and place lines on the Registered Invt. Movement page.
If required, you can also over-pick items (for example, moving 50 items when only 40 are needed) by turning on the Allowed Over Pick Consolidated Movement toggle on the Process Manufacturing Setup page.
Instead of scanning, you can also choose to manually update the quantity, lot number, and license plate numbers to handle the inventory movement activity in the scanner.
  5. When the scanning is complete for the movement activity, refresh and close the scanner.
The completed movement details based on the consolidated production movement can be viewed on the Registered Invt. Movement and Bin Contents pages.

  • You can execute the Create Default PostBack Fields and Create Default Validations actions on the Module Settings page for movement activity. These actions allow the system to automatically configure the postback fields and validators required to perform the movement activity.
  • On the Module Settings page, in the Posting Handler field, select Register Movement to allow the scanner to automatically register and complete the inventory movement in the WMS scanner.

To complete the process, you can post the production and consumption journal to finish the production order in Business Central.
