Integration with Aptean Expiration Management
You can integrate the Aptean Warehouse Management extension with the Aptean Expiration Management extension to calculate the expiration date of the item and item attribute based on the configuration of the Expiration Setup page. For more information, see Set up item expiration. The system mainly focuses on the defined value in the Expiration Date Calc. field on the Expiration Setup page. It calculates the item's expiration date associated with the warehouse receipt and direct put-away activity.
In Business Central
To ensure the expiration date is calculated correctly using the Document Date option in the Expiration Date Calc. field, make sure the following conditions are met:
- The Lot Specific Tracking toggle on the Lot No. FastTab of the Item Tracking Code Card page is turned on.
- The Use Expiration Dates toggle on the Misc. FastTab of the Item Tracking Code Card page is turned on.
- The Require Expiration Date Entry toggle on the Misc. FastTab is turned off.
This allows the system to automatically assign an expiration date without manual entry.
To calculate the expiration date using the Vendor Production Date option in the Expiration Date Calc. field, the following conditions must be met:
-
The Lot Specific Tracking toggle on the Lot No. FastTab of the Item Tracking Code Card page is turned on.
-
The Use Expiration Dates toggle on the Misc. FastTab of the Item Tracking Code Card page is turned on.
-
The Require Expiration Date Entry toggle on the Misc. FastTab is turned on.
This requires manual expiration date entry when using this item tracking code.
You can also select the desired item attribute for which you want to configure the expiration setup. For more information, see Set up expiration management.
For more information on how expiration dates are calculated using the options specified in the Expiration Date Calc. field, see Calculations.
Once the document is posted, you can view the expiration date details on the Lot No. Information Card and Audit Trail Entries pages.
In the scanner
In the scanner, follow these steps to complete the receiving process and update the warehouse records.
On the Company Settings (WMS) page, turn on the Show Expiration Date toggle on the License Plating FastTab to display the expiration date on the scanner.
- Open the WMS scanner on the device and log in to your location.
- Select the Inbound group.
- Select the Receipt module.
On the Receipt screen, you can view the list of documents. - Select the desired line, and then the item list screen opens.
- In the Qty field, enter the preferred quantity to receive.
- Fill out the lot number details.
A dialog opens.
The relevant expiration date, along with the item number and lot number details, is automatically populated in the dialog. This value is based on the expiration date configuration in Business Central.
To know more about completing the receive activity in the WMS scanner, see Walkthrough: Receiving a purchase order.
The above functionality works similarly while performing the direct put-away activity in the WMS scanner.
Suggest lot number in pick
The WMS scanner automatically suggests the lot number by considering the expiration date of the item.
Upon creating the warehouse pick in Business Central, the pick document is created using the picking templates. These templates allow you to create different picks depending on destination, full pallets, single items, and many more parameters.
This allows the warehouse manager to make specific picks based on the requirements for a particular shipment.
For more information, see Setting up warehouse templates.
For the required quantity, the system checks for the first expiring lot from the bins associated with the Picking Bin Group Code field on the Picking Group Order page.
You can view this lot number on the Item Lot Nos. By Expiration Date page. Subsequently, this lot number is displayed in the pick line on the WMS scanner.
The system calculates the lot number and its associated expiration dates using the minimum shelf-life functionality corresponding to the Aptean Expiration Management extension. For more information, see Minimum shelf life warning.
